Boating Destinations (Shorelines – Summer 2012)

A true Floridian’s enjoyment of the crystal blue waters of the Gulf doesn’t have to end at the beach.  For many, a relaxing day out on the water is the perfect tonic for the stresses of everyday life.  For those who don’t own their own boat and prefer to command their own vessel, Cannon’s Marina has the right boat for you.  Their expert service assures you of a trouble free day on the water.  Cannon’s is located at 6040 Gulf of Mexico Drive right here on Longboat Key or you can call them at 383-1311.

Getting out on the waves is a great way to spend some quality time with friends and family.  It gets even better when you know a few good destinations where you can tie up , kick back and relax.  Everyone has their favorite places to visit but here are a few gems I personally recommend.

When you galley is empty and  you’re looking for a bite, try Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant or the Mar Vista restaurant bayside on the north end of Longboat Key.  Another terrific spot for a bite is the Old Salty Dog at Ken Thompson Park.  All three of these restaurants have plenty of space to tie up your boat at their docks.  If you feel adventurous try The Sandbar Restaurant located gulf side on the north end of Anna Maria Island.  Anchor just offshore  and swim in for a great meal.

If you just need a place to get from it all, Egmont Key and Beer Can Island are both wonderful, quiet spots to drop anchor and relax, grill up lunch or go swimming.  Both places have become popular places to spend an afternoon, so make it a point to check them out next time you’re out and about.
