Your visual guide to all of the completed, underway or planned projects in downtown Sarasota.
A look at the building boom that is changing the face of Sarasota.
Construction is completed, underway or planned on projects that will bring more than 4,000 new apartments, condominiums and hotel rooms in and around downtown Sarasota.
Developers and the lenders that back them are risking hundreds of millions of dollars that Sarasota can handle this explosion of growth, which also includes nearly 500,000 square feet of new office, retail and restaurant space.
Dozens of projects, some cresting to the maximum 18 stories, are permanently changing the appearance of the city in a post-recession surge of building sparked by pent-up demand and unbridled confidence in the future.
Among the already completed projects are The Jewel, an 18-story tower on Main Street with 20 condos; the first phase of CitySide, 229 apartments in four-story buildings; and The Westin, an 18-story, 255-room hotel towering over U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.
Other large condos, apartments and hotels are scheduled to open in 2018. While the pace of newly planned projects slowed in 2017, the pipeline is full for the near term. And work is just getting ready to start on the first phase — an 18-story, 73-unit condo — of Quay Sarasota, the $1 billion development in the heart of Sarasota’s bayfront that could take a decade to complete.
