The Starters list contains grilled giant prawns with chili, lime & garlic…you will want to try these. Another favorite of mine is the pan fried lump crab cake with slaw and lemony mayo. Also, frm a menu selection headed Jars, is a smoked fish spread appetizer enlivened with tiny specks of minced veggies and served with saltines. This is a delicious concoction worth a try.
Under the Salad & Soup list I can never pass up the fried green tomato salad with goat cheese, country ham crisps & buttermilk dressing. I would come to Owen’s Fish Camp just for this salad; it is amazingly good. This time for the main course I chose a pair of pan-fried soft shell crabs from the menu box headed Naked Fish. You get your choice of several sauces (I chose lemon caper and was glad I did!) and two sides from the Sides list. That’s where I found the exceptional spicy collard greens spiked with bits of bacon and first-rate herb flecked shoestring fries. The little crabs were perfectly fresh and delicious, just crisp enough.
Also on my list to try on future visits are the buttermilk friend chicken from the Baskets section and the Fish Camp tacos with green salsa and something called Baja sause from the Sandwiches heading or as in previous visits several starters and the friend green tomato salad…so good.
